For over 40 years, the English Baroque Soloists has been one of the most innovative period-instrument ensembles, consistently challenging the preconceptions of audiences around the world. Equally at home in chamber, symphonic and operatic repertoire, its distinctively warm and incisive playing is instantly recognizable in music ranging from Monteverdi to Mozart. The orchestra has performed at many of the world’s most prestigious venues, including Milan’s Teatro alla Scala, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and the Sydney Opera House.

A leading authority on the works of J.S. Bach, Masaaki Suzuki made his debut with the Monteverdi Choir and English Boroque Soloists in June 2025. This electrifying combination of world-renowned conductor and virtuosic ensemble will celebrate the 300th anniversary of Bach’s 1725 cantatas, written during this time as Thomaskantor in Leipzig.

“There is something electrifying about making music with an ensemble whose DNA is so closely entwined with Bach’s. The Monteverdi Choir and English Baroque Soloists have helped to shape the world’s understanding of this music for decades. To collaborate with them and such wonderful soloists on these radiant 1725 cantatas, works that reveal Bach at his most daring and devotional, is both humbling and exhilarating. I look forward to the energy, the insight, and, I hope, the surprises we will discover together.” – Masaaki Suzuki

“On paper, this meeting of the giants, between the august founder of the Bach Collegium Japan and the world-leading period ensemble, had looked like a dream date. And so it proved: they clicked, and we had fun.” – Arts Desk
