Set during the Harlem Renaissance on the eve of the Great Depression, Pearl Cleage’s timeless drama follows a circle of artists and dreamers determined to create beauty in uncertain times. As friendships are tested by love, politics, and survival, Blues for an Alabama Sky captures a generation on the brink, reminding us that art is often born in the shadow of hardship, and hope can be its most radical act.
