Richard Fritz is a Kansas City-based visual artist, educator, and creative facilitator with over 25 years of experience working across painting, illustration, sculpture, and socially engaged art. A graduate of the Kansas City Art Institute, he is the co-founder of Art by the Yard, a collaborative studio producing large-scale public art, installations, and painting workshops under its Art Experience brand.

Richard’s work explores industrial architecture through expressive mark-making, mixed media, and illuminated textile installations. His pieces reveal the tension between geometric structure and organic decay—often using calligraphy-like ink gestures or community-made components.

Alongside studio practice, Richard develops youth-focused art education and community-based public art programs. His work has been supported by grants from ArtsKC, the Andy Warhol Foundation’s Rocket Grant, and the Charlotte Street Foundation. Recent collaborations include projects with the CDC, Youth Ambassadors KC, Bartle Hall, and Kansas City International Airport.
