As an abstract painter, my primary interest in painting is the actual painting process and the dance into the creative realm.  Every new project is a blank canvas with no preconceived ideas.   It’s that invitation to the unknown that excites me and keeps me coming back to the process over and over again.

I begin with intuition and memory, often recalling a place, a moment of time or a feeling.   I experiment with materials and tools to create lines and swaths of paint.  Pushing the boundaries of my mind’s eye, the canvas comes alive.

Layers of paint create depth and mystery while brush marks and pencil lines feel raw and exposed.  Color particularly influences my process and is organically and purposefully mixed.   Paint is applied as thin washes for transparency or thick and heavy to create texture.  Spills and splatters join the dance until the painting reveals itself.  It is in this dance that I find fascinating and calls me back again and again.
