I grew up in Kansas City and spend most of the year more or less on the road. I have lived in a car, worked in a national park, and ridden the Great Divide, a three-thousand-mile mountain bike route along the spine of the Rockies. Making my own adventures is one of my favorite things.

Most of my time now is spent in the deserts and mountains of the West, working as a software engineer and making photographs along the way. I am a self-taught software developer—self-taught in everything else, for that matter—which means I’ve learned to sit with problems for a long time until something finally gives.

I photograph with a large-format camera because it forces me to slow down. One sheet of film, one exposure, a lot of ways to get it wrong. That constraint suits how I like to work. Most of my images come from the desert and the high country, places I return to often enough that they have become familiar.
